Flexico!
- August 24th, 2007
I just got back from Mexico with my family and had the absolute best time. I managed to even fit a Photo Minute in that is so short it’s silly. I think it may be my first ever DPM that is actually less than a minute.
***CLICK HERE*** to see it right now, but be sure to come back because of all the cool pictures below … I love the flexico!. Sorry the audio isn’t so great so I put in some titles to help things out.
The images below kind of capture the flow of the trip. I had never done service work with my family like this before and was kind of nervous as to how it was all going to go, but it turned out amazing. Check ‘em out …
The airstream was in full effect.

It’s amazing how the mundane can stand out if you slow down long enough to notice.

With soccer being so popular in Mexico, this image really caught my attention. The deflated ball in the shadow of real human need was so poignant. What a gift to be able to serve.

Two local girls getting a bath.

My son Drew getting to work.

Abbi and Lisi getting in the mix.

This is the mom and daughter who were getting the house we were building. They were SO cool and absolutely deserving. I loved how they were so into being part of the team that created value.

Raising Wall #4.

Celebrating a half days work.

Taking in the eternal significance of what we were in the midst of.

Roof on house #1 (our team built three in three days).

My bride looking gorgeous. How’d I get so lucky!

Drew on top of Roof #2.

Lisi making friends with a local.

Some ladies on the team defying gravity.

My daughter Alaree and her new boyfriend. He kind of reminded me of BamBam from The Flintstones.

These two images were so cool because the man in the first one was my buddy Todd’s dad and Todd and his son were in the next picture. So cool to see three generations serving together.

The locals called these enormous beasts their personal garbage disposal. They’ll also double as Christmas dinner in a few months.

Last minute painting before we handed over the keys to the new place. I swear it felt like Extreme Home Makeover with a little less of a budget. Can you believe how many kids were working this trip!

That’s me with the hat on (LOL).

My daughters Abbi and Lisi getting some more paint on.

My new friend Brian putting on the finishing touches. The fisheye made the building look like a cathedral. It was a little more modest than that :)!

Me and Abbi after a hard days work.

The new home owner was pretty stoked.

My budding apprentice …

… who chimps just like her dad.

Keep it simple!

PS … Tami and I take off for Gary and Melissa‘s wedding and David Jay‘s birthday tomorrow and the week after that Mike Colon and I shoot a wedding with Jessica Claire in Las Vegas, so stay tuned for some fun stuff coming!

That is SO awesome that you had the chance to take your whole family down to Mexico to serve. Building a Orphanage on Potter’s Clay was one of the most humbling and gratifying experiences of my life. Your kids are so blessed to be able to experience the joy of serving in a tangible and meaningful way so young. They are absolutely gorgeous- you must be one proud daddy! :)

A cyber friend led me to your blog because of your book (signed up already for your newsletter), then I fell in love w/your wedding photos (although you need some “older” people in your repertoire)….then I saw what you did in Mexico. I’ve been wanting to do something like this for several years…and get my 17 y/o involved b/4 she’s “gone”… Can you steer me in the right direction? thank you.
