That’s a wrap
- March 28th, 2008
Las Vegas is always so much fun. Sometimes too much so.
Given all that I had going this year (the workshop, launching the pDNA, speaking for Adobe, Pictage and liveBooks, shooting a video for ShootdotEdit, the parties - Becker’s was my favorite I think despite the power outage) … I decided to walk a little slower, at least metaphorically.
The hope was that I would have a good time at WPPI rather than WPPI having a good time on me. I’m so stoked I made that choice.
There were certainly trade-offs though. I missed out on a couple opportunities to reconnect with new friends. But, I was surprised at how many of those encounters happened more naturally in passing, without the social challenges of loud gatherings. I felt like I was more present in my conversations, making it easier to resist the feeling of having the same conversation a gazillion times in a row. This was a gift to me because I don’t ever want my relationships to feel generic.
I was also given a gift after the fact by so many of you sharing pictures with me that you took. Here are a few …
Me on a panel with Robert and Mike …

Me enamored with Mike …

No idea what I was talking about …

Me with my friends Dawn and Bob …

Dawn was mad at me I think ;) …

Sara and me being silly …

I think Missy was bored …

Jess, Missy and Lauren are rad …

It was fun to see these more real reflections of my time. Like the weddings we shoot, we can’t capture every moment but the one’s we do can be signature if we make them so … which is how my Vegas experience felt this year … genuine … authentic. I can’t wait for next time.
I thought it would be fun to end this post with Ron Dawson’s final installment of “Diary of a Washed Up Rock Star” which was shown at the awards show on the last night of WPPI. Joe did such an amazing job with all the episodes and I’m glad he forgave me for the slap.

He really does do his own stunts …
Keep it real.

PS … special thanks to Paulo, Jason and the ubiquitous Kenny as well as everyone else who sent images in. Keep ‘em coming if you have more!

the little ant & the rubber tree plant… what?… too funny.
March 29th, 2008 at 7:21 am
FYI, the “ant and the rubber tree plant” is a reference to an old sold,
“just what makes that little old ant,
think he can move a rubber tree plant,
everyone knows an ant…
can’t….
move a rubber tree plant.
But he’s got…
HIGH HOPES!,
He’s got, high, hopes,
He’s got…hot applie pie in the skyyyyy, hope….”
Don’t people know that song? Or am I dating myself? I’m not even as old as that song?
March 29th, 2008 at 7:22 am
Ooops. I meant reference to an old song, not “sold.”
