$40 Workshop with Mike, Jessica & Dane
- April 3rd, 2008Two of my favorite friends and photographers … Mike & Jessica … have graciously made themselves available to help me teach a 4 Week Intensive through RHU at rockharbor church.

What’s cool about this workshop is that it’s for a bigger cause than just learning photography skills. It’s for the sake of equipping photo enthusiasts to tell better stories through their photography, especially in the context of missions and service projects.

All three of us have had chances to honor people’s dignity through telling their stories visually. Of course, many of us do this every day at events, weddings and portrait sessions. But, there’s something about doing it in a third world context that makes bringing their stories home something pretty special. I’ve gone on three trips myself (South Africa, Mexico and India) and, although heartbreaking at times, each picture has with it a remarkable story attached. Finding and telling those stories is worth getting better at. That’s why we’re doing this.

The content will focus both on how to best tell story while honoring your subject and how to best streamline the decision making process in capturing images through a methodical approach to photo capture.

The best part is that we’re all volunteering our time which is why we can offer this 4 week Intensive for just $40. Space is very limited so if you want in, go to rhuonline.org and lock your spot right away. Please remember though that this isn’t just another workshop. We’re learning for the sake of giving ourselves away. If that’s something you want to get better at, please do sign up. If not, please let us save your seat for someone else and instead come to one of our other workshops instead.
Class starts Tuesday, April 8th from 7-9pm and runs for four weeks. How fun is that?
Keep it true.
-Dane

Wow, this sounds like something that I simply *must* attend, based on my faith and my passion for making images that have a positive effect on the world… See you next week, Dane…

that’s what I like to see, people giving back. hats off to you guys (& gal). Wish I was in CA.

Hey Dane, this is an awesome idea and I wish I were in Southern Cal. Mike Colon had a blog post a while back about tying in one of his intensives with a Thirst Relief mission. I thought long and hard about it but couldn’t swing it financially. I still think about it. Kudos to you, Mike, & Jess!

Hi Dane-
You guys never cease to amaze me. Seriously. What an awesome example to the rest of us – and I can’t thank you guys enough for that! Using my photographic skills and talents in this way is really something I hope to do one day, whether here or abroad or wherever.
In any case, I just reserved my seat. I look forward to meeting you guys!

Wow, this is great idea for a workshop. You guys rock for putting this on. I wish it wasn’t spread out over 4 weeks though, otherwise I would totally be out there…

Hi Dane! My name is Daniel and Lisa Gisczinski sent me a link to this opportunity… I am EXTREMELY interested in going as I am going on a missions trip at the end of the month to Jamaica… The difficulty is that I will be gone on the trip – the same time as the last day of the 4 week course.. Would I still be welcomed to attend? Please email ASAP. Thank you so much

How cool to see this. Unfortunately, I’m on the other side of this country and cannot attend. I’m going on my first mission trip in October and this is EXACTLY what I want to do! Any chance you will have a recording available? Or even better, PPWM (Professional Photographers of West Michigan), is looking for speakers in 2009! West Michigan is home to World Missions, the organization I will be working with. As a new photographer, I see many workshops directed towards improving our own business, but nothing about how to use our talents for the Kingdom. THANK YOU!

Dane, how awesome is this? If I was out there in Cali, I would be there for sure. There is nothing more rewarding than giving of ourselves. When you mix that with our passion of photography – the rewards are off the hook. There is such a bigger cause, than what we do week in and week out. It is great that you are leading the way to address this.
God Bless Bro,
David

This is right down my alley. My passion and my heart. I wish I lived closer to CA instead of smack dab in the middle of the US. This would be a perfect fit for me!
Thanks so much for all that you do. It truly inspires me each day.

Hi Dane! Wish I lived in Cali to take advantage of this! Sounds like a great opportunity as well as just a great new way to link two things I love. I know RH is huge but do you happen to know Nina and Dave Hamilton? They are sort of related to me (bro married their neice). I’m claiming them as releatives because they are the awesome.

Wow! This sounds awesome!
What would it take to make this happen up in Portland, Oregon?
how many people attended? What is an ideal number? Could it be done with just one person flying up?
May 12th, 2008 at 6:15 pm
WOW Dane,
These photos make me want to quite everything that I am doing to become financially successful and just go serve our amazing creator. God bless this and all of the photographers that will be going to document these mission fields. I think that will create so many more opportunities for people to donate money to these missions when they can see great photos of what is really happening with their money.

Thanks you guys!
Hey Jason, I love Portland and would love to figure out a way to get up there. Let me know by email if you want to figure something out :).
