Last night & “why I sometimes wish I was a girl”
- April 9th, 2008
Last night, when I was teaching with Jess and Mike, we noticed pretty quickly that the audience was from all over the map in terms of experience. None of that is a problem. In fact, it was awesome to see so many people into wanting to grow in their ability to tell story through photo.

Of course, Mike and Jess were their usual fantastic selves but I was really self-conscious of wanting to make the content relevant to everyone, regardless of their background.

What was great, especially for those newer to photography, was that I was able to find language learned from my friend Me Ra on how to make normally complex ideas remarkably accessible.

I find myself wanting more of that kind of thing but all her sweet workshops are only for the ladies … and Brian … what’s up with that? LOL! Despite my bitterness, I wanted to give an un-sponsored plug of her workshops. She’s a remarkable photographer, writer, teacher and friend.
Just a heads up though … I think the one in San Diego is already sold out and I think there’s just a couple spots left in Sonoma.
Here’s what ladies having fun apparently looks like …

If you do make it into Sonoma and you sign up with a friend, I’m pretty sure you can get 25% off for both of you while there’s space. Check it out!
Keep it communal.

PS … Special thanks to my friend and fantastic shooter Brienne for her blog post images of last night! I can’t wait for next week! If you still want in, click here.

Dane, thank you so much for putting on the Intensive. I also had no idea what I was getting into, apart from the three big names and my calling to do something higher with photography. With the gamut from fellow wedding pros to people as green as your mother, his is going to be an awesome, interesting 4 weeks.
Next week I’ll bring my old Nikon 50mm lens, cause you can actually open and close the apeture diaphragm right in front of people’s eyes, it’s really helpful. That and, experimentation goes 100x further than explanation!

Thank you so much for doing this intensive - I had such a good time at the first session! You, Jessica, and Mike explained everything in a way that was engaging and easy to understand, and I can’t wait until next week! (Thanks also for sharing the link to Me Ra’s site!)

Dane! It was great! I really enjoyed it. But as far as homework… what about requiring us to take a fantastic trip somewhere and see some other parts of God’s creation?! When do we go? I’m packed and ready ;)
