OmniFocus on my new iPhone
- August 10th, 2008
The Omni Group’s OmniFocus organizational software is incredible. They built this application after being inspired by David Allen‘s Getting Things Done, which many of you have heard me endorse before.
For months, I’ve been lugging around my 17” MacBook Pro just to use the desktop version of the OmniFocus application, largely because of its potency and elegant interface.
Very cool but not the right solution… until now.

The new iPhone Version is portable, integrates with my desktop app and is revolutionizing my organizational life. I think I can trade in my Vespa for my road bike now because I don’t have to carry around my laptop for much. Could life actually get lighter?
I love it.
Anyway, I thought some of you might benefit to know that after a month or so of testing, I think the app is sweet.
Keep it organized.

So would you say that the app would justify me buying an iphone? :)

I too have been using the iPhone app and OmniFocus Desktop software. very cool. If you need help setting up a webDAV service just let me know…then you don’t have to use mobileMe to sync. Also, have your tried using the e-mail integration where you can send e-mails to be added onto your task list?

Hey Paul,
Tell me more! If there’s one minor complaint about this app on my iPhone is that I wish it sync’d quicker. I wonder if the webDAV service would work faster. Will you educate me (dane@danesanders.com) on how to do that? The email thing sounds really interesting too. I can’t wait to hear! Thanks!!

I agree totally with your review. Of all the iPhone apps, Omnifocus was the one that
I was most excited about and purchased as soon as my iPhone arrived. I add to it nearly hourly. I am also a huge GTD, David Allen & Merlin Mann fan. I wasn’t really interested in mobileme but wanted the sync back to Mac and backup option. So, on another discussion forum someone mentioned the WebDAV host bingodisk. Their service was really cheap, $20 for 10 gig for a year. It was really simple to setup, basically setup a folder and point to the web address. I did it today in a few minutes and it works great. Well worth investigating for people like me who found the “setup your own WebDAV host on your computer instructions” a little intimidating and didn’t really want to spend $100 for mobileme. Hope this is helpful to people.

If you already have a domain hosted then most likely the option to add a webDAV folder exists. Contact your web host before plopping down even $20 for the service. If you’ve already paid for it why do it again?
