That's a good perspective on all this, I feel so much better about it. The shoots that I have done for no monetary compensation have been creating value for me in the form of experience, people skills, and referrals. Thanks Dane, I'll keep reading!

Work to create value and you're never working for free. Re-frame what you're receiving and make sure you're making value (money is only one form). Others include networking, experience, exposure, practice, people skills, the opportunity to mess up with minimal consequences, etc. etc. If you leverage those things you receive well, the money will come. But, make it a bigger game than just getting the money. Dream bigger.

This is a great post about our current economic climate. It is easy to cut costs, but harder to get more creative with the marketing of our products and services. Sure, promotions are the products/services is important, but not at the cost of reducing the perceived value. Long term, it has to damage a business or rather that the business will find it hard to wrestle out of being labeled "cheap" when the economy changes for the better. Look at all the top brands on the market today, that are emotional based purchases, they never lower their prices.

I'm reading your book now and loving it. I like how you speak so honestly and frankly about your experiences. I can't wait to read more later today!

This is so reassuring. I have a question along these lines, but it may already be answered in your book. I'm only on page 50 though. I'm at the point where I'm shooting for free or very little so I can gain images for my portfolio. How do I know when to stop working for free?

The book is great, by the way! I'm very inspired!
