    ProPhotoHUB

    - September 8th, 2008

Check out the cool, new (and free) ProPhotoHUB that my man Ray Santana started. It’s a “what to pay attention to site” that’s pretty slick.

    Check it out here!

    ProPhotoHUB is cool!

The also just happened to do a little interview with me today if you want to check that at too.

    Keep it win-win-win.

PS… Today’s Total Truth tour was fantastic! I can’t wait for PartnerCon tomorrow!!

Today’s truth tour was fabulous! Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I can’t wait to incorporate some of the things I learned today. I wish I could’ve stayed and introduced myself but I had another appointment to get to. Have a great time at PartnerCon!

No offense, but what is worth paying attention to on that site? All the ads?

    3. Dane Says:

The reason I think ProPhotoHub is such a great website is because it provides a filter for photographers to comb through the sea of options and endorses the products and services (AND PEOPLE) that Ray (its founder) believes are worthy of people’s attention. It’s also free and people can choose to check it out or not.

Contrary to what I think is implied in your rhetorical question, what I’ve noticed is just how many people appreciate when guys like Ray take the time to introduce photographers, etc. in a more personal interview format but also keep it brief enough to light and fun so you aren’t camped out online all day.

I know personally too that this is a labor that Ray has taken on for the sake of others. I suspect the advertisers help Ray justify him taking the time to create this for others, as it certainly must be taking time away from his family, friends, etc. And, for the most part I’m pretty impressed with the folks he’s endorsing. Pretty solid lineup if you ask me.

    4. Erik Says:

Considering that all the interviews on the site are with people who have ads there, I didn’t see any other content that couldn’t be found on more comprehensive online sources.

Don’t get me wrong–I hold a few of the people on that site in the highest regard.

I’m just not sold on the picture you’ve painted for this site … especially since your book has an ad/endorsement there too. I’m not cynical nor am I trying to imply/elude anything. I just think that there’s a right way and a wrong way to cross-promote blogs/websites. Especially if advertising is involved.

We can definitely agree to disagree of course.

    5. Dane Says:

      Hey Erik,

I’d just encourage you to get your facts right before broadcasting your assertions or assumptions online. I’m sure you get how that might feel if it were done against Big Folio.

In this case, I am not a paid advertiser at all. Ray (who is a friend and endorses my book) just wrote me and asked if I’d do an interview for his new site. I said sure. Unsolicited, he featured my book.

I hear you when you say “don’t get me wrong” and “I’m not cynical” and that you are not “trying to imply/elude anything” but I’m not sure I buy it. You can call it agreeing to disagree if you’d like. My take is it’s more than that. Even if you do have the corner on the market for “the right way” to do things, please be more sensitive to how you are characterizing people and what they’ve created, especially without having any context for your comments.

    6. Erik Says:

Yes, it helps to have more of the facts–I appreciate you clearing that up. And I’ve already had plenty of things said about my company publicly.

If I was insensitive, I apologize.

Perhaps I should rephrase it this way: it’s impossible to tell on that site what is an ad, what is featured as a favor (like your book), what is endorsed, or what is sponsored. Perception is reality for many people on the web, so it might be beneficial to both Ray and his readers if the site was organized so that those things were clear.
