How giving is this?

- March 19th, 2009

Many of you know that I only have one picture of me and my dad together.
That’s a big reason why I started taking pictures for a living.

Well, when I was in Las Vegas speaking, I shared in passing that it was ironic that I don’t have many pictures of me with my kids because I’m the one behind the camera.

So, what does my friend Kevin Swan of KISS Wedding Books do in response? He calls & tells me he is going to jump on a plane, on his own dime, to come remedy that problem. I told him there was no way I was going to let him do that. But, he told me he would beat me up if I didn’t let him. And since he probably could, I relented.

Here are a couple of my favorites…

Oh wow, I am so happy to see these pictures! Kevin Swan was so kind to do this for you! I have been visiting your site now and then for the past 7 months contemplating on jumping in again ( been gone for 7 years ) to photography. I am 25 and a mother of 3 living in Binghamton NY. Last year did alot of photo sessions for free and loved it. Now I think with a nudge from my hubby I’m going to the court house to obtain a tax ID number and make myself official / legal. I loved doing this work for free, and the rewards of seeing this gift touch the recipent was life changing. Thanks so much for your encouragement and giving heart. I’m off to take the PDNA. Thank you so very much!

    Blessings,
    Julie G

Dane, this way cool. It was only after I read Fast Track that I understood “giving” in a real professional way. I know now that givers only give to givers. I want to be a giver and Im doing what I can to do exactly that. I wish someday I can be on the receiving end for something so powerful. Its a testiment to both Kevin and yourself.

    Great job both of you…

This so great and in my opinion is when photography has the most power. Losing my Dad is what led me to photography.

Thanks for sharing this kind deed and beautiful photography.

  14. Maria Watkins Says:

Giving and receiving is love for sure. You have inspired me to not be so camera shy… I like to be behind the camera usually but now I will have to let go of a bit of pride and trust that my children will want to see more pictures of me.

Dane–It’s been over a month since I was able to attend your awesome presentation at the San Jose PUG. I’d just like to thank you again for being an inspiration in my life. There are just that kind of people that touch your heart and may never know it unless you tell them…so I’m telling you. I just re-read what I wrote in my own blog in preparation for my blog update and was reminded of how small moments can change your life and your perspective forever. You have such a great gift with not only being able to capture people in their element, but to help others find their way. I know you have been an instrument in God’s hands in my life. Kevin’s willingness and insistence and your acceptance of his wish to photograph your family is telling of what kind of men you both are. I believe charity isn’t just something you do, but it’s something you become and I see that in what you do in your business and in who you are. Thank You sooo much for sharing yourself and your family with the world to inspire and uplift!!!

  16. Mands Says:

What goes around comes around…and you are one of the most giving, kind spirited people I know…you and your whole family totally deserved this, and Kevin….you are amazing….may you be richly blessed right back! These made me laugh, smile and even tear up, anyone who has grown up without a parent, or without photos of their parents knows that these are more precious than gold!
